Tolman was praised for her performance as the part of Minnesota police officer Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair said that Tolman was "calmly assuredly stolen the entire show". She won the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Film/Miniseries she was nominated as Best Actress at both the Emmy Awards & Golden Globes for her role. Tolman's guest role in The Mindy Project, as romantic novelist Abby Berman for two episodes, was announced the same. The year 2015 was the last time she starred as a supporting role in Michael Dougherty's comedy film Krampus. Tolman turned down several parts in the supporting roles such as best friends, wives, and mothers following her first big role on Fargo. Tolman was seeking for a role that was different. Tolman was a part of ABC's Downward Dog based off the Animal Media Group webseries. The show lasted for one year. Tolman played a role in the ABC drama Emergence. The series premiered September 24, 2019 and ended after one season which ended on May 21st, 2021, despite the fact that Tolman tweeted that the show had "pretty decent" ratings. The actress was also an actor on NBC's Good Girls.
